Off to a good start…

So far my trip is off to a good start…  In exchange for volunteering to switch to not as nice seats, Virgin Atlantic gave my mom and I an “invitation” to their First Class lounge, shared with Japan Airlines (Air Japan?).  So as I sit here typing, I’m sipping on complimentary sparkling water and nibbling on Japanese crackers.  In addition to the free food, there’s also free wifi (which I’m *very* pleased about), TV, and a massage chair.  I think my trip is off to an excellent start.

Off to London

My bags are packed, and I leave for London in just a few hours…I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet.  Perhaps it won’t until I’m there.  I’m excited to see what London holds in store for me.  I’ve been there before, and enjoyed it greatly, but that was only for a week, which is completely different from living somewhere for a year.  “A place can never be neutral; wherever you put yourself, the filings are magnetized and begin their alignments… Place will have its way with us,” Frances Mayes writes in A Year in the World.  I’m interested to see what London will do to me.
